Four people die of electrocution in Comilla

The incident took place on Dolkhar-Nangalkot road in Nangalkot upazila on Friday

Four people, including three of the same family, have died of electrocution when a Palli Bidyut supply line snapped and came into contact with their CNG-run auto rickshaw in Comilla.

The incident took place on Dolkhar-Nangalkot road in Nangalkot upazila on Friday.

The deceased are Mawlana Abu Taher, 60, his son Mawlana Abu Baizid, 38, and daughter Fahima Akhter Henna, 30, and the auto rickshaw driver Sarowar Hossain, 30. The victims hailed from Shankarpur village of Nangalkot's Jodda union.

Nangalkot police station Inspector (Investigation) Ashraful Islam told the Dhaka Tribune: "The CNG-run auto rickshaw caught on fire when high-voltage cable came into contact with it.

"Among the six passengers on board the auto rickshaw, four were killed. Meanwhile, Baizid's wife, Mariam, 19, and their child Adbul Afsar got injured.”

The inspector said the victims were on their way home when the accident took place.

Following the accident, locals took the victims to the hospital where the on-duty doctor declared four of them dead.

Police have launched an investigation over the mater.
