State minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak has said the government’s goal is to digitalize its services to provide benefits for citizens.

He made the remark at a workshop held for the final drafting of the e-Government Master Plan (EGMP), held in cooperation of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA); as part of the project named “Formation of e-Government Master Plan for Digital Bangladesh” at the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) auditorium at 10:30am Thursday.

The project was implemented by the Bangladesh Computer Council, under the ICT Division.

Speaking at the event, Palak said, “I would like to offer my sincere appreciation to all of you for being with us since we started our journey to transform the country into a knowledge-based and technology-driven one, which will be called Digital Bangladesh, by 2021.

“In the last 10 years, we have worked relentlessly to lead the country to a development path the likes of which the nation has never seen before. Today, I am sure all of you would agree that the essence and glory of Digital Bangladesh is real. Thanks to our visionary leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving the nation the innovative ‘Vision 2021’ and thanks to our ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed for directing us on a journey of realizing the development of digital transformation,” he continued.

The state minister also said: “I have learned that the formulation of the Master Plan involves a number of stages. The main objectives of this plan are to prioritize the needs of the citizen, above all, and find the best way provide services to the people. This is because the goal of our government is to digitalize its services to provide benefits to citizens that will make their lives and interactions with the government easier, efficient, and simpler.”

During her closing speech, ICT Division secretary Zuena Aziz said: “During today’s presentation, I have noticed that according to the report of UN e-Government Survey 2018, Bangladesh ranked 115th among 193 countries. In the subcontinental rankings we are in 3rd position, but we still have a long way to go in order to achieve the target of ranking in the top 100 by 2021.”

“Currently, there are no dedicated laws for our e-governance related activities. We need such laws to implement e-government related projects,” she added.
