Army will be prepared to provide necessary support, CEC says
Around the country, over 600,000 law enforcement personnel will be deployed during the election, the chief election commissioner has said.
CEC KM Nurul Huda said in a nationally televised speech on Thursday evening while announcing the schedule for the 11th general election, that the law enforcement officials would include police, Border Guard Bangladesh, Rapid Action Battalion, Coast Guard, Ansar and Village Defense Party members.
“Special attention will be paid to their skill, neutrality and integrity,” CEC Huda said.
“If the election is harmed by their failure, the responsible official will face legal action,” he added.
Additionally, the army will be prepared to provide necessary aid to the civil administration in maintaining law and order.
The army will work as per "Aid to the Civil Power" policy issued by the defence ministry, he said.
EC officials told the Dhaka Tribune army personnel will be kept ready at cantonments and designated places to operate as striking force when called upon.
