Richard Albright visits Rohingya camps

'It is necessary to create an improved environment at the Rakhine state of Myanmar for the repatriation of Rohingyas'

Richard Albright, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration for Africa and Asia of the U.S Department of State, after visiting two Rohingya camps on Sunday said, “The US government believes that the Rohingya repatriation needs to be safe, respectful and voluntary.”

His additional remarks: “It is necessary to create an improved environment at the Rakhine state of Myanmar for the repatriation of Rohingyas. Along with the UN, the international humanitarian organizations and various donor organizations should be allowed to work freely in Rakhine for the cause.” 

Derrick Brown, the new USAID Mission Director accompanying Albright in the visit said, “The USAID is working for improving the living standards and education sector of the Rohingyas and the local Bangladeshi population.”

Markedly, the representative team including officials deployed in the area from different organizations visitedthe Konarpara Rohingya camp in the Laikhongchori border area and the Ghumdhum transit camp adjacent to the Kutupalong refugee camp located in Ukhia of Cox’s Bazar in the morning and afternoon on October 11 respectively. 

They headed towards Dhaka on Sunday evening.
