Father put on 3-day remand over Banglamotor incident

Doctors have failed to identify the cause of death after the autopsy

A Dhaka court on Wednesday had placed Nuruzzaman Kajol on a three-day remand in police custody over a murder case filed with the Shahbagh police station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mandal passed the order on Thursday morning when Shahbagh police produced him before the court seeking a 10-day police remand for interrogation.

The investigation officer, in the remand prayer,stated that Nuruzzaman Kajol might have killed his son himself thereforean interrogation is necessaryto reveal the mystery of the incident. 

However, Nuruzzaman's lawyer Abdus Sattar filed a bail petition in rejectionto the remand prayer before the court. 

He informed the court that his client Nuruzzaman Kajol is mentally ill and that he is in need of medication.

Kajol’s wife had left himin October. She hadalso left her two children Safayet and Surayat behind. Kajol had senta legal notice to his wife for her to return home but she did not comply. Meanwhile Kajol had been looking after their two sons, the lawyer stated before the court.

Kajol however denied before the court of the accusation of him killing his three-year old son and stated thathis son was suffering from fever for four days and had subsequently passed away in his sleep.

Meanwhile, Dr Sohel Mahmud, head of Forensic Department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, told the journalists that deceased Nur Safayet's autopsy has been completed on Thursday.

He said that there were no fatal injury marks on his body confirming the cause of death,which isyet to be confirmed.

Some problems have been identified in his liver and brain found in the autopsy. There were two minor injuries on the forehead but there was no sign of internal bleeding, headded.

Safayet's gallbladder was foundlarger than normal. However, this was not unusual as the child was suffering from malnutrition, he remarked.

Sohel also said that to ensure the cause of death, doctors need to further examinethe liver, heart and gallbladder.

Earlier on Wednesday, police had recovered the body of Nur Safayet and also rescued his older brother Nur Surayet from a house in the Banglamotor area and arrested their father Nuruzzaman Kajol.

Maliha Akhter, wife of Nuruzzaman Kajol had filed the case against him with the Shahbagh Police Station on Wednesday night.
