World Bank will increase its assistance in terms of loans and funds to Bangladesh in future, said Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

The finance minister said this while briefing the reporters after meeting a delegation of the World Bank, led by its outgoing Country Director Qimiao Fan, at the ministry office at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Thursday, reports BSS.

Acting Country Director of World Bank Robert Saum was also present at the time.

“We’re now having a rapport with WB, though we had a tough time for a certain period earlier. But, things have changed. The WB team, which is working in Dhaka, understands the demands of the country well,” AHM Mustafa Kamal said.

He said after getting the initial recognition of a developing country status, Bangladesh has become a place of trust for foreign entrepreneurs and investors due to the ongoing friendly investment situation and socioeconomic development in various fields alongside growing GDP growth.

“Bangladesh is now a country of immense potential…our capacity has increased a lot and that’s why all the lenders, including the World Bank, want to extend credit to Bangladesh,” Kamal added.

Robert Saum highly praised the economic progress of Bangladesh, women’s employment and empowerment, hoping that the existing ties between the World Bank and Bangladesh would be strengthened further in the future.
