Tanners will buy salted cowhide and buffalo rawhide at Tk 45-50 per square feet in Dhaka

Update : 06 Aug 2019, 06:16 PM

The government has fixed the prices of different types of rawhides of cattle to be sacrificed during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, keeping them unchanged from last year.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi made the announcement after a meeting with leather traders at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Tuesday.

As per the announcement, tanners will have to buy salted cowhide and buffalo rawhide at Tk45-50 per square feet in Dhaka and at Tk35-40 in other districts.

"There has been no drop in leather prices in the international as well as local market. Hence, there is no way we would lower the price," the minister said.

Across Bangladesh, the price of goat hide has been set at Tk18-20 and Tk13-15 for 'Baqra' goat hides across Bangladesh.

Responding to the leather traders' complaint, Commerce Secretary Md Mofizul Islam said: "We can think about exporting leather if we fail to achieve a reasonable price in the domestic market.”

Meanwhile, leather prices were same as last year.
