Unofficial death toll stands over 166, so far
The government has confirmed that 81 people have died from dengue across Bangladesh so far since January 1 of this year.
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Friday confirmed the death toll after reviewing 136 out of 231 cases.
However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 166, so far.
Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier, the Aedes mosquito.
Meanwhile, as many as 360 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours ending at 8am on Friday.
The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release issued on Friday, said 82 new patients were admitted in Dhaka and 278 in districts outside Dhaka.
It said the number of dengue patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country was 1,557.
A total of 567 patients were currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 990 people were undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.
Since January 1 till September 27, as many as 86,903 people have been affected by dengue.
Among those admitted, a total of 85,115 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
