BTRC Chairman Md Jahurul Haque confirmed the development to Dhaka Tribune
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has responded to a legal notice, served by Telenor Group to President Abdul Hamid, seeking arbitration of a Tk12,579 crore audit claim with the telecom regulator.
BTRC Chairman Md Jahurul Haque confirmed the development to Dhaka Tribune.
However, BTRC officials, quoting the answer of the legal notice, said there is no way for arbitration as the matter is a sub-judice one.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, earlier on December 19, told reporters that Grameen Phone sent a legal notice to the president.
Telenor Group, parent company of Bangladesh's leading mobile phone operator Grameenphone (GP), in its legal notice to president sought for arbitration of a Tk12,579 crore audit claim with BTRC.
But the minister on the day said this was unacceptable as the country's apex court ordered Grameen Phone to pay Tk2,000 crore in three months.
“We will not go for negotiation with GP until it complies with the order," he said on the day.
