A Bangladeshi businessman was shot dead by a group of unidentified criminals in Queenstown in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Dulal Sardar, son of Malek Sardar of Daganbhuiyan upazila in Feni.

Dulal’s wife Bibi Mariam Parul confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune yesterday saying she is now clueless as to how she will support her son and daughter without Dulal.

According to family sources, Dulal sold his properties in Hirapur village under Matubhuiyan union and moved to Queenstown in 2008. There, he started working as a store clerk and soon opened his own store.

On Wednesday night, 2-3 snatchers broke into Dulal’s store and began looting the goods. He was shot in the head trying to stop snatchers.  Later, locals rescued him and sent him to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

While talking about the killing of a Bangladeshi national in South Africa, officer-in-charge of Daganbhuiyan police station Aslam Shikdar said he heard about the incident.
