Four government and non-governmental hospitals were accused of not conducting a test for a child who later died not receiving necessary treatment.
The deceased Jisan Sardar, 11, a third grader, died suffering from jaundice and seizures on Friday around 7am in the capital’s Shewrapara area.
The deceased’s father, Zaman Sardar, made the allegation against the hospitals.
Zaman said: “My son has been suffering from jaundice and seizures for the last four years. I would occasionally go to a government hospital and seek medical help from a doctor for his ailment.”
“Last week I went to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital with Jisan. The doctors there gave him some medication which reduced his seizures but he was unable to stand up,” he added.
“The doctors prescribed ECG and EEG tests on Thursday afternoon. Only the ECG test was performed there. They told me to do his EEG test from somewhere else as soon as possible, as they did not have the equipment there,” he continued.
They went to Ibn Sina Hospital, Popular Diagnostic Centre, and the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, all of whom refused to perform the test.
This eventually caused Jisan’s death, alleged Zaman.
Contacted, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital Director Dr Uttam Kumar Barua told Dhaka Tribune: “We have the EEG machine which makes it unlikely that they were told to get that test done from somewhere else.”
“However, it may not be functioning properly right now. I will look into the matter,” he added.
