The concerns were reveled through a statement issued on Tuesday

The Editors Council (Sampadak Parishad) has expressed its deep and serious concern at the filing of cases under the controversial Digital Security Act (DSA) against two editors, namely Toufique Imrose Khaledi of bdnews24.com and Mohiddin Sarkar of Jagonews24.com for reporting on misappropriation of OMS rice in Baliadangi upazila in Thakurgaon.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the council of the newspaper editors, said that the Parishad is further concerned by the fact that cases have been filed under the draconian DSA without issuing any rejoinder or lodging any compliant with the Press Council whose job it is to deliberate on such matters.

At a time when the media along with the government are working round the clock against severe odds to fight the coronavirus pandemic such efforts to harass and intimidate the media is highly regrettable, the Editors Council noted.

It also stated: "We demand the immediate withdrawal of these cases against the two aforementioned editors and urge all concerned to desist from such practice of attempting to stifle the media."
