RAB DG: No reason to impose curfew in this outbreak yet

Amid the increasing Covid-19 cases every day, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) director general (DG) said the current situation is not conducive to imposing a curfew.

RAB DG Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun made the remarks in response to questions from reporters at an online press conference regarding security measures during Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday.

He requested that those who have gone home should return in small numbers, avoiding large crowds.

The RAB DG also said Eid congregation will not be allowed in open spaces this year. “People will offer Eid prayers inside mosques and adequate security measures have been taken for that.”

 The RAB DG also said they are monitoring social media platforms so that no one can spread rumours. He urged people to refrain from liking or sharing stories without fact checking.

The ongoing operation of RAB will not slow down in this Covid-19 crisis and Eid. They are ready to arrest culprits and deal with any kind of situation, Mamun said.

Amid the Covid-19 outbreak, RAB has arrested 31 people for their involvement in rape and murder, and 47 were arrested on charges of militant activities, he said.

1,485 people have been arrested on charges of involvement in the drug trade. A large quantity of drugs worth Tk55.32 was seized during the lockdown. Also, 89 armed men have been arrested so far by the elite force in this lockdown, he added.   

Mamun also said RAB has taken all kinds of necessary initiatives to prevent any crime and illegal activities ahead of Eid. 

RAB patrol teams are already deployed with reserve forces ready to face any unwanted situations, he concluded.
