Boda police station Inspector (investigation) confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Thursday
Police have arrested two persons, including a local Jubo Mohila League leader, over their alleged links to the gang rape of a model in Panchagarh.
The arrested persons have been identified as Boda upazila Jubo Mohila League General Secretary Abida Sultana Lucky, 45, and Sajjad Hossain Milon, 33.
Boda police station Inspector (investigation) confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.
He said: “A case has been lodged with our police station by the 28-year-old victim against three named and 10 to 12 unnamed suspects.
“The victim was produced in court, where her statement was recorded. Her medical examination has been completed as well. The two detainees are currently in jail following a court order. We have sought a five-day remand for each of the two for interrogation.”
According to the case statement, accused Sajjad, who claims to be the chief news editor and graphics designer of an organization named Prothom Bangla TV, had invited the victim to come to Panchagarh for the shooting of a music video.
Then on Tuesday, as per Sajjad’s instructions, the victim arrived at the district’s Boda area, where Sajjad took her to the house of local Jubo Mohila League leader Lucky.
There Sajjad, along with four to five others, raped her.
Later, the victim was taken to another house in Bhasainagar area of Boda Municipality, where she was again gang-raped.
Finally, on Wednesday, the victim somehow managed to flee and went to the local police station and filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Panchagarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Yusuf Ali said: “We're assuming that more people are involved in this.
“We will be able to get to the bottom of this after the court grants a remand for the suspects. A drive is underway to nab the other perpetrators.”
