The government on May 28 decided to resume domestic flight operations on a limited scale from June 1 after keeping it suspended due to the pandemic

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has decided to resume its regular flights on domestic routes following a two-month hiatus over the Covid-19 pandemic. The move comes against the background of the forthcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

Tahera Khondoker, deputy general manager (public relations) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.

“The national flag carrier will operate regular flights on three domestic routes -- Chittagong, Sylhet and Saidpur -- from July 25,” she added.

“Passengers will be able to purchase tickets for their desired destinations through Biman’s sales offices, website, mobile app, and agents,” said a statement issued in this regard.

Khondoker said: “Six flights will be operated daily on the Dhaka-Chittagong-Dhaka and Dhaka-Sylhet-Dhaka routes, while four flights will carry passengers on the Dhaka-Saidpur-Dhaka route for the upcoming Eid. Tickets for flights operating on the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet routes will cost Tk2,500 whereas, for the Dhaka-Saidpur route it will cost Tk2,700.”

The national flag carrier is now operating scheduled flights to three destinations --- London, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai --- while continuing to operate special chartered flights amidst the pandemic, she added.

The government on May 28 decided to resume domestic flight operations on a limited scale from June 1 after keeping it suspended due to the pandemic.

Airlines were instructed to have only 50% of their total passenger capacity on board and strictly maintain the government issued health safety guidelines to stop a further spread of the deadly virus.

Meanwhile, the national flag carrier was forced to cancel all its flights scheduled due to an inadequate number of passengers.

After keeping all commercial flight operations suspended for over two months, CAAB lifted the ban on domestic routes to Chittagong, Sylhet, and Saidpur on June 1, while the Jessore route was reopened on June 11, Barisal on July 12 and Rajshahi on July 21.

304 Bangladeshis return home from Malaysia, Singapore

A special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carried as many as 144 Bangladeshis from Kuala Lumpur to Dhaka and landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at around 6:50pm on Wednesday.

On the same day, 160 Bangladeshis returned home from Singapore on a special flight of US-Bangla Airlines that landed at the HSIA around 7:15pm, US-Bangla Airlines General Manager (media) Kamrul Islam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

All the returnees were sent into home quarantine after thermal screening at the airport, said an airport health official.
