Schools, colleges not reopening before September

The Ministry of Education says no decision has been taken so far on reopening educational institutions after Eid

Educational institutions in the country are not reopening before September in a bid to ensure health safety of the students amid the coronavirus pandemic.

If the situation improves, then educational institutions would reopen in mid-September, according to officials familiar with the matter.

"We will not open the educational institutions before September. If the situation gets better, then we will decide to reopen. The decision will be taken by the [education, and primary and mass education] ministries ,” Primary and Mass Education Secretary Md Akram Al Hossain told Bangla Tribune.

Secretary to Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry Md Mahbub Hossain said: "A decision will be taken after a meeting between the two ministries and discussions at the highest level of the government."

According to the sources at the ministry, the educational institutions in the country are on holiday till August 6. The decision on whether they will remain closed or reopened will be taken before August 6.

As the educational institutions had been closed for a long time because of the pandemic, various rumours are being circulated in the social media that they will open after Eid.

However, the Ministry of Education protested against the rumours and said no decision has been taken so far on reopening educational institutions after Eid.
