Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Additional Director General (ADG) Col Tofail Mostafa Sarwar says the killing of Maj (retd) Sinha Md Rashed is being deeply analyzed.

“The whole shooting incident of Major Sinha took place in a minute or two,” Col Tofail said, speaking with journalists after visiting the Shamlapur checkpost on Friday, reports Bangla Tribune.

“We have collected a lot of information about the incident and every second of it is very important,” the RAB ADG added.

Asked about the details of the information, Tofail said: “This is a very sensitive and important case. It would not be appropriate to speak on this at this time. This may disrupt the investigation.

“The investigation is being carried out such so that no culprit is spared and innocent people are not harmed in any way. We are deeply analyzing every second of what happened in those two minutes,” Col Tofail said.

The three main murder accused, OC Pradeep Kumar Das, SI Liakat Ali and ASI Nanda Dulal, all suspended from the polie force, were taken to the crime scene by the investigating officer.

RAB (legal and media wing) Director Lt Col Ashiq Billah, RAB Intelligence Wing Director Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kashem, RAB 15 Commanding Officer (CO) Azim Ahmed, and Investigation officer (IO) of the Sinha murder case, RAB Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Khairul Islam, were present at the time, among others.

Police handed over the seized items of Shipra to RAB on Thursday night following a court order.

A total of 29 items – including the computers of Shipra and Sifat – were handed over to RAB to help with their investigation of the Major (retd) Sinha murder case, Ramu police station OC Abul Khayer confirmed.

On July 31, around 10pm, Major (retd) Sinha was killed at an Armed Police Battalion (APBn) checkpost in Teknaf’s Baharchhara union.

On August 5, a murder case was filed by Sinha’s sister Sharmin Shahriar Firdaus, accusing nine people, including then Teknaf police station officer-in-charge Pradeep, Baharchhara checkpost in-Charge, Liakat, Sub-inspector Nanda Dulal Rakkhit, and Tutul, ASI Liton Miah, Constable Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, Md Abdullah Al Mamun, and Md Mostafa.

According to the case statement, Baharchhara checkpost In-Charge Liakat, and SI Nanda Dulal Rakkhit, challenged retired major Sinha and his associate who were visiting the area to shoot a documentary on July 31.

Sinha and his associate, Sifat, a videographer, were dragged off their vehicle despite providing their respective identities. The police officers then fired at Sinha, killing him on the spot.

After the murder, the police officers also filed two fake cases against Sinha and others to frame them as drug dealers, said Sharmin Shahriar Firdaus, Sinha’s sister.

“Not only did they kill my brother, but they have also mutilated his dead body to make him unrecognizable,” added the plaintiff of the case.
