RAB gets custody of the suspects for further interrogation
A court in Cox’s Bazar has granted investigators four days to grill the seven policemen, including former Teknaf OC Pradeep Kumar Das, over the killing of retired Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan.
On Thursday, investigating officer ASP Khairul Islam of the RAB-15 moved the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah for a 7-day remand.
The court, however, granted four days.
The seven policemen who were issued the remand are suspended Teknaf police station officer-in-charge Pradeep Kumar Das, Baharchhara investigation centre inspector Liakat Ali, the centre’s sub-inspector Nanda Dulal Rakkhit, ASI Liton Miah, constable Safanoor Karim, Kamal Hossain and Abdullah Al Mamun.
“We dug out some pretty important details about the incident from the accused. We asked the court for some additional days to investigate the case thoroughly,” said investigating officer ASP Khairul Islam.
Quoting the IO, Tofayel Mostafa Sarwar, additional director general of RAB, said: “We expect to complete the investigation soon.”
Sinha, 36, who took early retirement from the Bangladesh Army in 2018, was shot dead at a police checkpoint on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive at Shamlapur under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar on July 31.
