Awami League lawmaker for Thakurgaon 2 constituency Dabirul Islam has tested positive for Covid-19.
Civil Surgeon of the district Dr Mahfuzar Rahman Sarkar confirmed the matter on Sunday night.
As MP Dabirul Islam, also the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry, was showing the symptoms of coronavirus infection, samples were collected from him on August 21, Dr Mahfuzar said.
The samples were sent to the laboratory of M Abdur Rahim Medical College in Dinajpur and the result came out positive on Sunday night, he said.
"The lawmaker is now in isolation at his residence in Baliadangi and taking treatment from there," the civil surgeon added.
In Thakurgaon, as many as 810 people have been infected with the viral disease as of Sunday and of them 436 have fully recovered, officials said.
The deadly virus claimed 14 lives in the district.
