The seized gold bars are worth Tk6.25 crore, BGB said
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday night detained a woman reportedly with 57 gold bars weighing altogether 9.2kg in the Sadipur border area of Jessore's Benapole.
The arrested Banesa Khatun, 35, was detained from her home in Sadipur village and was later handed over to Benapole Port police station with the seized goods, confirmed Lt Col Md Selim Reza, commanding officer of Jessore BGB-49 battalion.
Tipped off that a consignment of gold is being smuggled to India through the border, a team of BGB raided Banesa's house and seized the gold worth Tk6.25 crore, the BGB officer said.
