Unregistered speedboats often cause accidents and deaths on rivers
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that speedboats will no longer be allowed to cruise on water without valid registration.
Khalid gave the directive during a meeting with top officials from the Department of Shipping at the secretariat on Thursday afternoon.
Shipping Ministry Secretary Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, Director General of the Department of Shipping Commodore Abu Jafar Jalaluddin were present at the meeting, among others.
The state minister also instructed the Department of Shipping to observe a “Registration Week” for speedboat registration.
“The government is firm about this decision and no speedboats will be allowed to operate without registration,” he said.
The decision was taken because many speedboats often cause accidents and deaths on the Padma and other rivers.
