Facebook officials assured the minister to comply with DSA, VAT Act, and other rules and regulations
Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister, Mustafa Jabbar on Monday asked social networking giant Facebook to comply with the law of Bangladesh by abstaining from publishing any rumor, propaganda, or false information as well as communal, militancy, and pornography substances.
“Facebook has the responsibility to abide by Bangladesh’s Digital Security Act (DSA) and related all rules and regulations,” he said during a virtual meeting with Facebook’s regional office in Singapore, said a press release issued in this regard.
The minister also put emphasis on appointing resellers and representatives to pay tax to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) as well as the necessity of accurate translation of Bangla language and its application.
“Facebook has to ensure a secure platform for our society and citizens,” added Jabbar.
Facebook officials assured the minister to comply with DSA, VAT Act, and other rules and regulations.
The meeting also decided to sit once in each month among representatives of Facebook, BTRC, and concerned offices to monitor the activities.
Director General of BTRC Brigadier General Mostafa Kamal, NBR member (tax policy) Alamgir Hossain, First Secretary Kazi Farid Uddin, and BTRC Senior Assistant Director Tousif Shahriar along with officials concerned attended the meeting.
Besides, Head of Safety Bikram Sen, Director for Public Policy Ashwani Rana, newly appointed Bangladesh’s Affairs Officer Sabnaj Rashid Diya, and Iram Iqbal of mobile partner division from Facebook were present, among others.
