Indian national among 7 burnt during work at GPH Ispat factory

The accident happened on Tuesday when molten iron fell on them at GPH Ispat factory in Chhoto Kumira

Seven workers including an Indian national have sustained burn injuries working at a steel manufacturing factory in Chittagong.

The accident happened around 3:30pm on Tuesday when molten iron fell on them at the GPH Ispat factory in Chhoto Kumira of Sitakunda upazila, Chittagong.  

The injured workers were Shahin Alam, 27, Tipu Sultan, 32, Shahidul Islam, 27, Nuruzzaman, 40, Amir Hossain, 27, Rabindra, 25, and Indian national Kewal Singh, 46.

Of them, one worker returned home after receiving primary treatment.

The other six workers are now undergoing treatment at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Firoz Hossain Molla, Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda police station said he heard that seven workers received burn injuries working at the GPH Ispat factory.

The OC, however, could not give any details of the workplace accident.  

ASI Alauddin Talukder of CMCH Police Outpost told the Dhaka Tribune that the injured workers had 4 to 11 percent burn injuries.
