The court also fined them Tk25,000 each
A Dhaka court on Sunday sentenced two employees of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited to five years imprisonment each for taking Tk9,000 as bribes.
Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka Special Court 4 passed the verdict against Md Kamruzzaman Sarkar, deputy assistance director of Demra Titas Gas office, and Md Abdur Rahim, a technician at the same office.
The court also fined them Tk25,000 each, in default, they will have to serve three months more in jail.
According to the case statement, on June 14, 2007, Kamruzzaman Sarkar took Tk2,000 from an official of Nippon Sweaters Ltd of Dakkhin Khan in giving gas line connection, while Rahim took Tk7,000.
But, while taking another Tk6,000 as bribes, they were caught red-handed.
A case was filed against them with Dakkhin Khan police station to this end.
On May 8 in 2009, assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Md Zahin Hossain submitted a charge sheet against the two.
