DNCC Mayor Atiq, wife test positive for Covid-19

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam and his wife Shaila Shagufta Islam have tested positive for Covid-19.

The mayor confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune on Monday morning.

"As I felt feverish, I did the test and the result came positive on Sunday night. At the same time my wife also tested positive," Atiq said.  

Currently, he and his wife are undergoing home isolation at their residence in Uttara.

Alongside the mayor, several DNCC officials, including its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Selim Reza, and Atiq's Assistant Personal Secretary-2 Rishad Morshed also tested positive, confirmed ASM Mamun, the spokesperson of the city corporation.

According to the DNCC officials, Atiq faced a crowd last week while visiting the cleaning activities at Godakhali canal in South Bishal area of Mirpur.
