The Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) has expressed concern over the safety of a female employee who was allegedly abused sexually and has sought justice in this regard.

The organization made the demand to ensure its colleague’s safety and security, according to a media statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the employee was allegedly abused sexually at a BGB checkpost in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, on October 8.

BLAST condemned the report of various parties where the person’s name was mentioned.

They called for all parties to respect the Suppression of Violence against Women and Children Act 2000, which prohibits the disclosure of the identity of women and children in cases concerning allegations of sexual violence.

BLAST expressed its concern that inaccuracies in reporting and speculation might hamper due process.

It also urged all parties involved to ensure that threats and harassment were stopped in this regard.

BLAST would take all steps necessary to seek an investigation into the allegations and accountability of those found responsible, the statement said.

The organization said it was carefully monitoring the measures being taken to investigate the incident and to ensure its colleague’s safety.
