Man arrested over harassment of 12-year-old girl

A man has been arrested over the reported sexual harassment of a 12-year-old girl at Korail Jamai Bazer slum on Thursday.

According to Banani police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Delwar Hossain, house owner Shah Alam, 42, allegedly sexually harassed the girl when he came to the house to collect rent from her father, a rickshaw puller.

“The girl’s father is two months behind on rent. The house owner came to the house to collect rent at around 9am, while the girl was sleeping,” the SI told Dhaka Tribune on Friday.

“At one point, the girl’s father went to the bathroom. At that time, Shah Alam attempted to molest the girl, according to the complaint from the girl’s family,” the police official added.

Police arrested Shah Alam after the girl’s family filed the complaint. The house owner is currently in jail.
