The newborn was stolen from Jinam Hospital sometime between Sunday and Monday
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has rescued a newborn who was stolen from Jinam Hospital in Kadamtali area of Dhaka.
Police have also arrested four more people in connection with this incident on Thursday.
The arrestees are -- Kamrun Nahar Munni, 40, Runa, 35, Raushan Ara, 50 and Afsana Begum, 45.
DMP's Deputy Commissioner (DC-media) Walid Hossain confirmed the matter on Friday.
He said Kamrun Nahar Munni helped the mother of the newborn, Rabia Hafsana, to get admitted to the hospital on Sunday and later, the baby boy was born.
The newborn was stolen from the hospital sometime between Sunday and Monday. His family looked for him in various places but could not find him.
On Wednesday, Rabia filed a missing child complaint with Kadamtali police station around 8:30pm. Police took the complaint seriously and conducted the search operation, the DC added.
Later, Kamrun Nahar was arrested and interrogated. Based on the information provided by Kamrun Nahar, Runa was arrested from Jinam Hospital.
Another accused Raushan Ara was arrested from Mohakhali on the basis of the information provided by the other two detainees, said the DMP official.
On Thursday, with information from all the detainees, police arrested the main accused Afsana Begum and rescued the newborn.
A case has been filed under Human Trafficking and Prevention Act with Kadamtali police station in this regard, he added.
