Unesco recognized Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech as part of world’s documentary heritage on October 30, 2017
The Directorate of Posts on Friday released a commemorative postage stamp commemorating the recognition of the historic 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of the world’s documentary heritage by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar released two stamps worth Tk 10 each and Tk 30 souvenir sheet from his office.
A special seal was used on the occasion.
He also unveiled Tk 10 opening day covers and a data card worth Tk 5.
The souvenir sheet and the first day cover initially went on sale at the philatelic bureau of Dhaka General Post Office (GPO) on Friday. Later, those will be sold at all post offices across the country, including GPOs and head post offices.

A press release issued by the ministry said Bangabandhu's March 7 speech was included in the ‘Memory of the World Register’ — a list of important world documentary heritages maintained by Unesco.
Unesco's recognition did not only honour Bangabandhu's historic March 7 speech, it also brought respect to the entire country and the nation, it added.
According to Unesco, Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech “effectively declared the independence of Bangladesh”.
Unesco’s description continued: “The speech constitutes a faithful documentation of how the failure of post-colonial nation-states to develop inclusive, democratic society alienates their population belonging to different ethnic, cultural, linguistic or religious groups.”
