ASP Anisul was beaten to death by staffers at a psychiatric hospital in the capital’s Mohammadpur area
Current students and alumni of Jahangirnagar University have demanded speedy trail for those involved in the murder of Barisal Senior ASP Anisul Karim Shipon.
They formed a human chain to put forward their demand in front of the National Press Club on Friday morning.
On Monday, ASP Anisul was beaten to death by staffers of Mind Aid Hospital at Mohammadpur.
The late ASP was a student of 33rd batch at the Department of Biochemistry in Jahangirnagar University.
His batchmate Shuvo Chowdhury, a former student of the department of Philosophy said: “Not only as a batchmate, I want justice for Shipon because every citizen of the country deserves justice.”
“Shipon was a front-liner citizen of the country. He joined the police to serve the country,” he added.
Shohel Parvez, former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League at Jahangirnagar University said: “We want a speedy trial for the culprits through setting up a special tribunal as Shipon was a meritorious police officer and an asset of the country.
“Those who have already been arrested must face trial, and those who are involved in his murder must be identified and brought to justice.”
Students from different batch and departments were present in the human chain. Speakers at the human chain said Shipon was a victim of a planned murder.
According to the statement of the case filed by Anisul’s father, Anisul was suffering from mental illness. He was brought to Mind Aid Hospital around 11:30am on Monday.
Shortly after being admitted to the hospital, he was beaten to death by staff members.
A total of 11 people have been arrested in the incident till date. Of them, 10 have been remanded by the police.
