Minister of State for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has said that Bangladesh is moving forward towards becoming a potential sector in the field of shipbuilding.
The minister of state was speaking at a webinar on the India-Bangladesh cooperation in shipbuilding -- organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) -- from his official residence on Thursday afternoon.
Chairman of FICCI Captain Anil Kishore Singh, Indian Defence Production Secretary Raj Kumar, Additional Secretary of Indian Ports, Shipping and Waterways Ministry Sanjay Bannerjee, Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Vikram Kumar Dowraiswami and high officials of Bangladesh and Indian armed forces divisions participated in the webinar.
The minister of state presented the keynote paper at the webinar.
Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said: “At present, more than 200 shipyards are operational in Bangladesh.
“And of those, at least 100 are effectively involved in shipbuilding.”
The state minister briefed those attending the webinar about the history and past conditions, possibilities and challenges of Bangladesh in the field of shipbuilding.
He also focused on the possibilities of military and commercial riverine cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
