Technovation Girls Bangladesh set to participate in global challenge

The Bangladesh chapter of Technovation Girls, a global tech education nonprofit, will take part in the upcoming Technovation Challenge 2021 for the first time.

Their primary mission is to add new women workforce in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (Stem) field - strengthening the vision of Digital Bangladesh while impacting UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to a press release.

The local chapter launched in October earlier this year.

Their additional goals include establishing Bangladesh as a global role model in Stem education by 2025, introducing augmented reality (AR) in Stem education, attaining SDGs 4 and 5 of inclusive education for all and empowering all women and girls through gender equality respectively, and working to reach the 17 SDGs using app development.

Since 2010, more than 23,000 young women from 100+ countries have participated in Technovation Challenge.

It is said to be the world's largest and longest running technology entrepreneurship program and  tech competition for girls (aged 10 - 18).

Teams of young women identify a problem, create an app to solve it, code the app, build a company to launch the app in market, and pitch their plan to experts in just three months.

World pitch finalists will get the opportunity to present their idea in the United States if Covid-19 situation gets better.

Winners will get scholarships and seed money to launch their business.

Technovation's applied, project based computer science and entrepreneurship curriculum reinforces digital representation of information, algorithmic thinking and emphasizes the societal impact of information technology.
