Police recorded two sexual offence cases in Sreepur, Gazipur on Monday after a woman was raped and a video of another woman's intimate moments was published over the internet as she refused sex.
Sreepur police station Inspector [Investigation] Moniruzzaman confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
The accused rapist is Selim, 30, and the cyber criminal is Touhidul Hasan Rakib, 25.
Rakib, a resident of Tepirbari village in Sreepur's Telihati union, was in a relationship with an 18-year old woman. They started their affair four years ago, says the case statement.
During their relationship the couple had sexual relations several times, one of which was secretly filmed by Rakib.
He refused marriage when the woman asked for it and was subsequently rejected when he made a proposal for sex on Saturday.
He circulated the video of their private moments form his social media account on the same day, the case detail further says.
Meanwhile, in Bhangnahati area in Sreepur municipality, the family of the other woman, surviving rape, had a long going dispute linked to land ownership with the family of the accused Selim.
Selim’s family have been making threats of murder and inflicting injuries to the survivor's family as a result of the dispute, according to the other case filed.
On Saturday, the woman went to her neighbour's house when Selim raped her at knife-point. He also threatened to rape her with 15 others if the matter is disclosed, the case details further says.
Inspector Moniruzzaman said two police inspectors were made in-charge of investigating the cases and police will take necessary actions.
