Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that attacking an under-construction sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia is the same as “sedition.”
Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, said: “The attackers will have to pay the ultimate price. There will be no compromise.”
The minister made the remarks while speaking to newsmen at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday morning.
Responding to a question of the reporters, he said: “Bangabandhu is bigger and beyond any political party. Thus, any non-political organization can file a case over the vandalization of his sculpture.”
He informed that the construction work of another Bangabandhu sculpture in Dhaka’s Dholaipar area will soon be completed.
“The construction work will not stop,” he said.
The minister said that the government is investigating whether there is any provocation of BNP in the anti-sculpture movement.
