61 women recognized as freedom fighters

Out of the total, 15 are from Patuakhali

The Liberation War Affairs Ministry has issued a gazette notification recognizing 61 women as freedom fighters.

The gazette signed by the ministry’s Deputy Secretary Dhirendranath Dutta was published on Monday, two days before Victory Day.

The notification is in line with a decision taken at the 70th meeting of the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka) as per section 7 (Jha) of the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka) Act-2002 and under No 5 point of list No 41 of schedule-1 (allocation of business) of the Rules of Business, 1996.

Of the 61 female freedom fighters, the highest 15 are from Patuakhali, 13 from Sylhet, 12 from Natore, and two each from Thhakurgaon, Barguna, Kushtia, and Gopalganj. 

Of the remainder, one each was from Kishoreganj, Moulvibazar, Pirojpur, Bogra, Brahmanbaria, Mymensingh, Khulna, Faridpur, Satkhira, Khagrachhari, Madaripur and Barisal.
