Temperature may dip to 6°C in northern districts

Amid the ongoing cold wave, the temperature in the northern regions of Bangladesh might drop to 6°C, according to a Met Office forecast.

“The cold wave could last three or four days and could be mild to moderate,” Bangla Tribune reports, quoting Meteorologist Omar Faruq on Saturday.

He said the temperature could drop to 6 to 8°C in the north and northwest. However, the temperature will not drop significantly in other areas, he said.

On Saturday, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 8°C in Rajshahi division’s Badalgachhi. 

In Chuadanga, the temperature was 8.5°C. It was 8.6°C in Dimla, 9°C in Ishwardi and Srimangal, 9.5°C in Saidpur and Rajarhat, and 9.6°C in Dinajpur.

The lowest temperature in Dhaka division was 15.6°C, Mymensingh 12.2°C, Chittagong 15.3°C, Sylhet 14°C, Rajshahi 9°C, Rangpur 11°C, Khulna 12°C and Barisal 11.4°C.

The met office says the temperature will be dry in most of the areas in Bangladesh on Sunday.

Bangladesh normally experiences chilling cold from mid-December to early February, with multiple cold spells hitting the country over the period.

Meteorologists fear that three cold waves may occur next month.
