Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd (TGTDCL) is considering online payments to return around Tk40 crore previously collected against applications and demand notes from 56,000 customers.
In May last year, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) placed a bar on new residential gas connections. However, despite the bar, gas distribution agencies continued to collect deposits against applications from customers and demand notes, reports Bangla Tribune.
Following a directive from EMRD, Titas held a meeting with general managers of local offices and directed them to return the money taken from clients.
“We need to return this money. Today, we discussed ways which can be used to repay the customers,” TGTDCL Managing Director Ali Iqbal Md Nurullah said.
He also said that he prefers digital payment to lessen the hassle on customers.
The TGTDCL chief also added that a list has already been finalized in this regard.
