He condemns the eviction drive by the DSCC
Former mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sayeed Khokon has termed the demolition of Phulbaria Supermarket by the city corporation illegal.
"Following appeals by shopkeepers of legalizing their business, in a board meeting, we had permitted running the market in line with a court order on the condition of modifying its design and payment of outstanding rent of shops in it," he said while addressing a human chain demonstration in Dhaka on Saturday.
"Accordingly, the engineering department of the DSCC corrected the design later on and the revenue department realized the rent of up to eight years," the former mayor said, adding that the incumbent management of the city corporation started a drive against hundreds of shops without prior notice.
