Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested two people for swindling people using a fake Facebook ID in the name of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
The arrestees were identified as Md Zakaria and Md Ekramul. Internet devices, and one mobile phone SIM, used for money transfer through bKash were also seized from their possession.

Earlier, Monirul Islam, APS to the DSCC Mayor Taposh, filed a case with Shahbag police station on January 1 under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
Briefing reporters at the DB office compound on Tuesday, Additional Commissioner (DB) of the DMP AKM Hafiz Akhtar said that the accused opened a fake Facebook ID in the name of Taposh, and used it to introduce themselves as the mayor.
Later, they demanded money from various people alluring them with promises of jobs, and would receive the money through a bKash account.
A case was filed in this regard with the Shahbagh police station, Hafiz added.
He also said that the DB's Cyber and Special Crime Division worked on the arrests in Rangpur and Gazipur.
A fake Facebook ID in the name of Mayor Taposh was found being used in a mobile phone seized during the arrests.
