Dr AKM Abu Zafar’s death anniversary on Tuesday

An established philanthropist, he was a servant of humanity and a strong social worker

Tuesday marks the 46th death anniversary of prominent eye specialist Dr AKM Abu Zafar.

He passed away at the age of 45 on February 2, 1975.

Zafar was a freedom fighter and one of the leading organizers of the Liberation War of 1971 and the Language Movement of 1952.

He was instrumental in coordinating the armed resistance against the Pakistani occupation force with the Bangali army officers in Chittagong. He also served as a medical officer of Sector 1 in the Liberation War. The contribution of this great soul in the War of Liberation will be remembered forever.

He was also the president of the Red Cross Society of Chittagong and a founding member and honorary specialist doctor of the Lions Eye Clinic.

Zafar worked as a pioneering organizer of the National Association for the Blind alongside his association with and contributions to numerous educational and socio-cultural organizations in Chittagong.

His family remembers the dedicated son of the nation with great pride and prays for his departed soul.
