He was undergoing treatment at BSMMU till now
Economist and former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled has been put on life support at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
"The physical condition of Khaled worsened since February 19. And he has been placed on life support from this afternoon. His condition is very critical," said Professor Kanak Kanti Barua, vice chancellor at BSMMU.
Khaled, a former deputy governor of the central bank, had earlier tested positive for coronavirus infection and was admitted to Bangladesh Specialized Hospital on February 1.
He was later transferred to BSMMU where he was receiving treatment till now.
"We suspected that he might have suffered a brain stroke. But there is no scope to diagnose the matter by conducting a CT scan due to his ailing condition," Kanak said.
Khaled also headed Bangladesh Krishi Bank as chairman and managing director. He served in Sonali, Agrani and Pubali banks as well.
