She passed away at her Banani residence in Dhaka on Monday

Theatre activist Lily Chowdhury, also the wife of martyred intellectual Munier Chowdhury, has been laid to rest. 

She was buried at the Banani graveyard in Dhaka at around 3pm on Tuesday, after her namaz-e-janaza, her son Asif Munier Tonmoy said.

Earlier in the day, her body was kept at her Banani residence till 10:30am for relatives, family and friends to bid her farewell. 

Later, she was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar, for people from all walks of life to come and pay homage to her.

Sammilito Sangskritik Jote president Golam Quddus, Ekushey Padak-winning theatre artiste Ramendu Majumdar, and film-maker and cultural personality Nasiruddin Yousuff were present there, among others.

Lily Chowdhury passed away at the age of 93 at her Banani residence at around 5.30pm on Monday. She had been suffering from old-age complications for a long time.

Her husband Munier Chowdhury was a Bangla Academy Award-winning educationist, playwright, literary critic and political activist, who was killed by the Pakistan Army and its local collaborators on December 14, 1971. 

Her other son, Mishuk Munier, a former Dhaka University teacher of journalism teacher and a cinematographer, died in a road accident along with film-maker Tareque Masud in 2011.
