Police on Saturday arrested a madrasa teacher for allegedly raping an 11 year old student in Gazipur.
The arrestee, Abdul Momin, 30, hails from Boyra village in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail. He is a teacher at Al-Madrasatu Li-Tah Fazil Quran Madrasa in the South Harinal area of Gazipur.
Gazipur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune. The police arrested Momin on Saturday afternoon.
Rafiqul said the students of the madrasa went to sleep after having dinner on Thursday. At around 2:30am on Friday, Momin woke up a student, 11, from the Hafez department and called him to his room, telling him he intended to massage his hands and feet with oil.
After the student arrived, Momin threatened him and then proceeded to rape him.
Earlier on Monday at midnight, Momin had called the student to his room and allegedly molested him.
When the student started to cry, Momin threatened him and then released him. The abused child reported the incident to his father.
The student's father filed a case against Momin at the Sadar police station on Saturday.
Police later arrested the accused teacher and produced him before a court. The court did not grant him bail and sent him to jail.
