Amid growing humidity due to a cloudy sky during the daytime for the past days, the country witnessed the year’s very first nor’wester on Saturday afternoon.
A sudden rain coupled with gusty wind was reported in at least six districts including Dhaka, media reports suggest citing the Met office.
The rest districts including Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Madaripur, and Barisal, the wind blowing in the capital city at a maximum of 30 km/h speed.
Prior to the nor’wester, Dhaka witnessed drizzling in the morning, when mild rainfall was reported in the northern and eastern parts of the country which brought relief to some and misery to others due to severe power outages in some areas.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department or BMD has forecast that similar weather may appear in the Dhaka division and other regions on Sunday.
Bangladesh on Saturday registered the highest temperature at Sitakunda Upazila of Chittagong and Rangamati (36.5°C).
The 24-hour BMD weather forecast effective from 9am on Saturday says a trough of low lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas, with seasonal low lying over South Bay.
Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind are likely to occur at one or two places over Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions. The weather may remain dry elsewhere over the country, it says.
Heatwaves likely
The BMD says at least two mild to moderate heatwaves may strike western and northwestern Bangladesh at the end of March, when the temperature may surge to 40°C.
The daytime temperature throughout this month will be higher than normal, ranging from 34°C to 36°C. But the temperature at night will remain unchanged.
