Police arrest wife but husband is still at large
A couple have suffocated a 10-year-old to death due to his parents’ failure to give them Tk50 lakh as ransom for his release.
The child named Raja, son of Kalam Matbar, was killed in Tongabari area of Ashulia at 10pm on Sunday.
Ashulia police station Inspector (Operations) Ziaul Haque confirmed the incident.
Police have arrested the tenant woman, Liza, in connection with the murder of the child.
Locals said a tenant couple on the second floor of Kalam Matbar's house in Tongabari abducted Raja on Sunday evening.
Later, they demanded Tk50 lakh as ransom for the child. The news spread inside the area but the kidnappers suffocated Raja to death as the parents were late in paying them the ransom they demanded.
Later, they packed the body in a gunny sack and threw it down from the four-storey roof of the house. After the incident, the husband fled but the locals captured his wife Liza and informed the police.
Ashulia Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Al Amin said that upon receiving the news of the child’s murder, the police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Liza was arrested in connection with the murder of Raja, but her husband Ariful Islam is still at large.
Detained Liza has been sent to jail by the court, he added.
