He shot himself in the chest as his father scolded him for not sitting for the medical admission test held on Friday morning
A young man was found dead in his apartment in Chittagong on Friday which police have deemed as suicide, using his policeman father’s state-issued gun.
The incident took place in Mirpur residential area under Akbar Shah police station on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Mahin Uddin, 19, son of Mohim Uddin, sub inspector (SI) of Khulshi police station.
According to the police, Mahin shot himself in the chest as his father scolded him for not sitting for the medical admission test held on Friday morning.
Akbar Shah police station Officer in-Charge (OC) Zahir Hossain said Mahin had passed the HSC examination this year.
“After returning from duty, SI Mohim scolded Mahin for not taking part in the admission test. Later, SI Mohim left the state issued pistol at home and went to the mosque,” he said
At that time, Mahin went into his room and closed the door. Then, other family members heard a sound of gunfire and rushed to the room and found him critically injured, the police official added.
Mahin was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the duty doctors declared him dead, said Md Zahirul Islam, in-charge of CMCH police outpost.
