Youth arrested for raping fifth grader in Lalmonirhat

A young man was arrested for allegedly raping a fifth grader madrasa student in Patgram municipality of Lalmonirhat on Thursday night.

The arrestee was identified as Rabbi Islam, 20.

The arrest was made after the survivor’s brother filed a case at Patgram police station over rape and abortion.

According to the case statement, Rabbi raped her, finding her alone at home. The fifth grader got pregnant after the incident and Rabbi forced her to terminate the pregnancy when he found out about it.

The survivor was admitted to Patgram Upazila Health Complex on March 22 when she got severely ill and was later transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

The girl's family learned from doctors there that she was pregnant.

Later, her brother filed the case on Thursday night.

Police raided Rabbi's house the same night and arrested him.

Officer-in-Charge of Patgram police station Sumon Kumar Mahanta said the court had sent the accused to jail pending trial.
