PM Hasina to inaugurate distribution of 880C financial support to poor families on Sunday

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate on Sunday the distribution of financial support to some 3.5 million poor families who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The government will provide a total of Tk880 crore as financial support to them through electronic fund transfer (EFT) where each family will get Tk2,500. 

The amount will directly go to the respective mobile banking account or bank account of the beneficiaries through EFT, said a Finance Ministry press release on Thursday.

Last year, the government had launched a similar distribution of cash aid where around 3.5 million poor families who were affected by the pandemic received Tk2,500 each.

The release said the families in the disaster-prone areas, areas with more people in extreme poverty, the ratio of population were given priority while selecting the 3.5 million beneficiaries so that the extreme poor people and the jobless poor section of people come under the financial support program.

Under the program, day labourers, farmers, workers and transport workers will get such financial support. ICT has been used in the selection process of the beneficiaries.
