The home minister says if an application is filed in this regard, the decision will depend on the court
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that neither Khaleda Zia nor her family has appealed to the government to go abroad for treatment.
He also said that Khaleda Zia would have to come through the court if she wanted to get any further facility.
He made the statement on Tuesday while responding to a question from reporters after distributing Eid gifts among the helpless and the poor at the Nazneen High School premises in the capital's East Rajabazar area.
He said Khaleda Zia's sentence was suspended for getting medical treatment. She is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital.
“Specialist doctors are treating her, as far as we know. The prime minister has made arrangements in the country so that she can get better treatment,” he said.
“We have not received any application or request from her or her family to go abroad for advanced treatment,” he added.
Asked what action the government would take if Khaleda Zia applied to go abroad, the home minister said it is a matter for the court.

If Khaleda Zia wants to avail any other facility than the ones she is getting under the provision given by the prime minister to seek medical treatment by suspending her sentence, she has to go to court.
He said Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given Eid gifts to thousands of people so that they can enjoy Eid along with all, reports BSS.
“Our prime minister always thinks about the common people as well as the unemployed and the poor. She has realized that the poor and unemployed people should be able to celebrate Eid too, so she has given the Eid gifts to them,” he added.
Each beneficiary family received Tk2,500 as Eid gift from the prime minister in this pandemic gripped difficult time and a total amount of Tk912.50 crore has been allocated for it.
President of Awami League Dhaka North Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, General Secretary SM Mannan Kochi, Organizing Secretary of Awami Swechhasebok League and Ward Councilor Faridur Rahman Khan Iran were present during the gift distribution ceremony.
