Nine people have been arrested over the incident so far
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the mastermind of a human trafficking racket and his three associates, including a woman, from Jhenaidah over the alleged rape and torture of a Bangladeshi woman by her fellow Bangladeshis in India.
The ring leader Ashraful Islam alias Ashraful Mondal alias Boss Rafi, and his associates Sahida Begum alias Madam Sahida, Md Ismail Sarder and Md Abdur Rahman Sheikh alias Arman Sheikh were booked in a two-day operation starting Monday.
Earlier, police in India’s Bengaluru arrested five Bangladeshis — four men and a woman — for allegedly raping and torturing a woman believed to be from Bangladesh. Rifadul Islam alias TikTok Hridoy of Moghbazar area in Dhaka and and several others were accused in the case May 28.
In a press conference in Dhaka on Tuesday, RAB Director (legal and media wing) Commander Khandaker Al Moin said the arrestees in primary interrogation had confessed to trafficking women to India.
“Boss Rafi had moved to India where he started working as a taxi driver before going into human trafficking there five years ago,” he said.
“Two years ago, Rafi met Tiktok Hridoy, and since then, they have trafficked more than 50 women and girls from Bangladesh to the neighboring country,” the RAB official said.
Hridoy used to trick the victims into going to India by luring them through making TikTok videos.
